Last update from Hawaii :(

By waesa

Well, it’s getting late and I have to be up early for the flight tomorrow so I’m going to tear down my computer.

This is the last blog update from Hawaii, but keep checking back. I’ll be continuing here (or maybe making another page) to tell you about my move to Colorado, or wherever the hell I actually wind up.

It’s a sad thing to leave a place that you’ve grown to love.. I love Colorado as well, but I had so many trials overcome (and some that I failed to overcome), loneliness, joy, awe, sadness, fun, fear, learned a lot about myself, my fellow man, and so many other things.. An absolutely amazing experience. I wish I could say it like I feel it..

Anyway, keep checking back for updates. I’ll be posting the link to m new Colorado page here if I ever bother to make one. Otherwise I’ll just keep it right here if my readers can overlook the incongruity of the title :)

Thanks a million for reading. It has often kept me going here when I was feeling like the only person in the world. Best wishes to everyone, and I’ll get back online when I get to Dan’s house.

I’m proud of you! I’m so glad Honor has shared you with me! It has been such a joy to me to check your page and see the amazing pics and hear all of your stories each day (or at least when you had it updated…lol)! If you make it up this way for a visit…please let Honor and I know so we can get together and I can finally meet you in person! I know I will continue to follow your journies! Take care and I wish the best for you!!!!!

Will do. I’m not in a particularly great financial position for road trips right now, but I’d like to make it to MN and SD and WI.. We’ll see.

Hi there. I came across your site today and poked around reading a few entries at random. I’m a local girl, born and raised in Hawai’i, although I’m now living on the Mainland (more than a quarter of my life away from home now!). I miss Hawai’i terribly, but it really is a tough place regardless of its reputation as paradise. It’s a complex place of so many contradictions, of extraordinary beauty but also real troubles too. It seems you encountered both while you were there. I’m so sorry that you had to experience the less positive side of the islands as well. I was absolutely horrified by your story of being assaulted and harassed by the guys passing you in a truck as you rode on your moped. It’s shameful. And it pained me to hear that you felt isolated. Like many small, tight-knit communities, it sometimes takes a long time, tremendous effort, and plain luck to find and break into a social network, since many people in Hawai’i have established family and friendship ties that go way back. Local people sometimes also see a number of people coming to the islands and then returning to the Mainland, and it’s hard to have people you become close to leave… Hawai’i is quite special, but it really is difficult to get to know its culture and community. It can be an extremely tough place.

Your record of your experiences reminded me so much of home and helped me to see anew (and from a distance) what seems so innately familiar to me. Thank you for sharing your experiences, and I wish you the best of luck in your future. . . And moms have much wisdom, don’t they? You’re lucky to have such a supportive, caring one. :)
