Getting antsy

By waesa

Jamie came down for her long-planned visit on Wednesday night. We rented a car and have been exploring the island, hitting all the spots I’ve missed out on in the last 6 months. They were having a special on convertibles, too. Makes gawking like tourists way easier. Let’s see.. Big happenings in the last few days:

A gecko fell (jumed?) off of a tree and landed on my head while I was driving Jamie back from the airport. Tried to get pics, but failed. He clambered around in my hair for a while before finally scampering off :)

Unable to find a place to parkthe rental car I parallel parked it in the driveway in front of my garage. Apparently that’s against the rules. Towed the car and cost us 167 bucks to get it out. :(

Jamie went for her first swim in the ocean. Swam bravely, but didn’t take to the snorkel gear very well.

Drove into town without getting lost or freaking out.

That’s about it. I’ll see about getting some pictures to post up here. I keep forgetting that I won’t be seeing this stuff every day after the 16th!

    Waesa,

I’ve been following your posts since you first started and even commented a couple of times. I was really bummed when you said you were going back to the Mainland. I’m here now..have been since 8/12. I have to tell you, I was sooooo afraid that I would hate it from reading forums, from some of your posts. My experience so far has been completely on the flip side. Now, I have someone here. So maybe that makes a world of difference. I live in Kaimuki and maybe that’s another difference. It’s a great neighborhood..convenient…close to beaches and stuff you need. Anyway, I guess I just wanted to let people who may read this know that you can have a great experience here. I can’t say that I feel like it’s home but I can say that I feel like I belong here. I wish you a world of prosperity and success on your new adventure. And if you’re ever back in Honolulu, send me an email. You’ve got a place to land for a few….

Believe me, I love it here. This blog was about chronicling my low-budget spur of the moment move here and I learned that it’s just too hard for me. But I’ll be back, armed with knowledge and knowing what’s really here as opposed to my misconceptions about the state. I’ll be going into that in more depth in the next couple days. But I totally agree that anyone looking to move to Hawaii should get here. Just get here with a bit more than 4-500 bucks in your pocket :)

It’s the count down. I finally read thru your blog. Thank you for sharing your experience in Hawaii. Isn’t sad not only @ BBH, but for any company that when a co-worker leaves it’s a flood of emotions and kindness. But, if you’re going thru your day to day work week, people talk about you. (Not you in particular) But about each other in genereal, isn’t that so messed up & pathetic. Why can’t people just do their job, receive their paychecks, and live life to its fullest!!

All the best in your new venture in Colorado! Even though I worked & known you briefly. Your a good man, Alan. And as we say, besides Aloha — Malama Pono & A Hui Hou! Take care & until we meet again! Tara

Thanks for the comment, Tara. You were a joy to me every day, and I never *really* thought you were frightening those little kids on purpose! Keep your eye on the blog and I’ll keep ya posted :) I’ll miss you and all my coworkers in the trenches of BBH. You have my phone #.. Just remember to add 4 hours to the local time for Mountain :)
